In the previous two lessons, we studied about how we are all sinners deserving of hell, then studied
how a worthless sinner finds life through Jesus Christ. Now we will study what comes next, living
for Christ.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. Jesus's words here
will be the theme of this lesson. This statement is so simple, yet entails so much that it would take
years to fully expound upon it. Truely, the hardest part about writing this was not what to put in,
but where to stop.
First things first, get baptized into one of the Lord's true churches. This is one of the first works of righteousness expected of a child of God, there are many examples in the Word. In fact salvation and baptism often occur in the same sentences, leading many to falsely believe that baptism is a condition of salvation. However, a new child of God only need know that it is so important that Jesus, the son of God, observed baptism as an example for us. Matthew 3:13-15 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him. But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me? And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fufill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Next, a new chid of God must read the scriptures. Psalms 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. The only way to learn and grow, as a child of God, is to learn God's law. Then you will be able to spot the false ways. I've done a previous lesson on the subject, where it's covered in a little more detail. ( Click here for previous lesson)
Finally, remember that you are now a saint, and you need to act like one! Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Everywhere we go there are people lost, dieing, and on their way to hell. Whether we realize it or not, we represent our God to them. They should see him in us. This is not to say we will or even can be perfect, but we should serve him with all that lies in us. 2 Corinthians 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. Paul tells us here that we are ambassadors for Christ. That is the duty of every child of God, we should, like any good ambassador, strive to represent the one who called us into service. By obeying his commandments, studying his word, and being a good example to the world, we can be that good ambassador.
